Humanitarian aid in conflict situations such as Gaza and Sudan
Regarding humanitarian aid for civilians affected by conflict, Fund for Global Health believes that human suffering must be addressed wherever it is found.
Humanitarian action must be based on need alone, prioritizing the most urgent cases.
We support a pragmatic approach that combines compassion for civilians with measures to prevent diversion to combatant groups.
If any party is hindering aid, all appropriate means should be used to remove the barriers.
In humanitarian emergencies such as Sudan and Gaza large scale resources need to be urgently deployed.
$9 billion in humanitarian aid was included in the bipartisan Israel security aid bill Congress passed in April 2024.
According to the U.S. Dept of State, since FY2023 the U.S. has contributed to more than $968 million dollars in aid to Sudan and neighboring countries, serving as the leading humanitarian donor to the Sudan emergency response.
These are good steps, and more is needed.
